In our work we address feminist inspired theory and fiction, technology-driven emancipation and discursiveness of space. We work within a variety of media, starting with performance through installation, fragrance, sculpture to video. With YOUNG GIRL READING GROUP (YGRG), an ongoing serial project (2013-) we examine the relationships between reading, affect, distraction, togetherness and disunity, bodily and virtual presence, live action and documentation, we are interested in how the collective experience of being together can be inscribed in space and how language can become material and embodied.

In our performances, the readers are placed in casual lounging positions, bringing to mind bodies hanging out in bedrooms – through this a sense of intimacy and vulnerability is generated. What’s produced is a sense of girl-on-the-internet catharsis – feminist theory rubs against ‘girlish’ reading practices, signaling a move towards de-institutionalizing the texts we work with. Through our work we try to create spaces that resist the logics of normativity and provide room for experimentation, reading and play for a group of performers where the desire is pronounced through text and gesture but also documented and shared further. The choreographies trace affinities across social practices, art forms and timeframes. YGRG is a sonar-social architecture of shared curiosity and synchronicity; it is a live Instagram hangout, a self-conscious aesthetic chamber for intimacy and discovery. Through the constructed spatial settings we want to suggests a physical augmentation of the experiencing of the text and offer a focus for considering the relationship between the body of the performer, the gesture, the text being read and the surrounding objects and environment. This contributes to an embodied vocabulary through which the audience navigates intimate and fragmentary exchanges between the performers and traces of those in the space, art objects, images and videos online.
